SALT LAKE CITY -- It's already happening.

The new upscale City Creek Shopping Center is luring businesses away from Gateway Mall. Express has closed at Gateway and says it's moving four blocks east. American Eagle and Gymboree shut their doors, too, but decline to confirm their plans.

Macy's and Nordstrom will also anchor City Creek shopping with another 80 stores and restaurants. Among these joining forces with the new center are Yankee Candle Co., fashion retailer Brooks Brothers/Brooks Brothers Women, Cheese Cake Factory, and Texas de Brazil Churrascaria, a steakhouse that will open its first restaurant in Utah.

With two 18-foot waterfalls, a trout pond, huge retractable roofs, and the creek (for which was the center was named) running through the middle of the mall, this shopping center plans to attract a lot of attention.

This newest addition to downtown Salt Lake City is set to host their Grand Opening March 22, and the City Creek Shopping Center isn't making the event a small one. With two 18-foot waterfalls, a trout pond, huge retractable roofs, and the creek (for which was the center was named) running through the middle of the mall, this shopping center plans to attract a lot of attention.

Spanning over two city blocks, the City Creek Shopping Center will also bring a new ambiance to the downtown area with its historic, but modern architecture. A sky bridge is also being erected over Main Street, making access to and from the shopping center more quick and safe.

The City Creek Center is located adjacent to the two top tourist destinations in Utah -- the famous Temple Square, and the Salt Palace Convention Center. Because of this prime location, the new shopping center will be target for tourism in Utah.

It is hard to tell how much the Gateway Mall will suffer from the new competitor, but Utahns are excited at the prospect of having more options of shopping spots.
