SALT LAKE CITY -- A former student at what was once called the Utah Boys Ranch is suing, claiming that he was sexually abused multiple times while attending the residential treatment center.
The lawsuit by Eric Norwood, 25, gives detailed descriptions of him being assaulted in front of other students and being sexually abused multiple times by a staff member at the Utah Boys Ranch, now known as the West Ridge Academy where he was a student from ages 15 to 18.
The lawsuit is asking for $11 million in damages. Norwood filed the lawsuit in California because the statute of limitation had already expired here in Utah.
At a press conference in California, Norwood told reporters he was abused pretty much the entire time he was at the ranch and he's suing to help save others from the pain he suffered.
He is also hoping his lawsuit prompts an investigation.
Current and former directors at the academy have replied to reporter's questions about the lawsuit by denying all the allegations.
Norwood also says he believes there are other victims who attended the ranch.
