SALT LAKE CITY -- The entertainment industry has all sorts of award ceremonies every year. The Oscars, the Golden Globes, Emmy's and Grammys, and this weekend, Salt Lake added their IAMMY awards.

The Intermountain Acoustic Music Association has been around for about 25 years, but this is their first member's choice awards.

"Our goal is to promote acoustic music in all its various forms," said Kevin Jones, IAMA president and mandolin player. "We put on concerts and festivals, host jams and we have a wonderful community that supports the organization and we're pleased to be a part of that community."

The IAMA has about 500 members, and most play an instrument of some kind that represents one of the many acoustic music genres.

"We support the music of the British isles, bluegrass, the blues, instrumental music...folk singing, singer- songwriters. Those sorts of things," Jones said.

Ballots went out a few months ago, asking members to choose their favorite band or performer in 16 different categories. The night had what all those awards shows have: live music, people all dressed up, presenters tearing open the envelopes, and nervous but appreciative winners.

The award itself was designed for the nature of the organization --a guitar headstock and tuners, mounted on a wooded base.

"We'll continue to do things that have been very successful. Which are promote local artists, provide a showcase for local artists to perform and for our members and citizens to enjoy it," said one musician.

A total of 16 IAMMY awards were presented Saturday.
