SALT LAKE CITY -- With so many other options, a mass- produced paper Christmas card out of a box may be passe.

On the Design Mom blog, Gabrielle Blair features a family that sends out a video Christams card each year. They say it's easy with things like Apple's iMovie. If that seems out of reach, Studio 5 trend-watcher Mindy Dunyon says many sites make it easy to create a personalized, unique card. Sites like Etsy have easy services, Snapily 3D even makes cards with a 3D effect. Others like Shutterfly and Minted can do all the addressing and mailing for you.

"There's hundreds of designs, all different designers so you can find anything you want," she said.

Currently, Dunyon said she's seeing a lot of people holding props in their Christmas card photos. "You don't even have to create a big extravagant card, you just throw in a prop, take the picture and you're done," she said. "The one I'm seeing the most is people are spelling out the greeting with props in their photos."
