(KSL News) Senator Ted Kennedy called for congressional hearings into what happened at the Crandall Canyon coal mine. Those hearings start tomorrow.
Mine co-owner Bob Murray is one of the witnesses invited to speak before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions subcommittee. Murray said he won't attend the first of several scheduled Congressional hearings.
The hearing will look into safety procedures at the mine, as well as the dealings between the mine officials and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration.
Friday night the search for six missing miners was officially called off, more than three weeks after the men were lost in a cave-in. MSHA officials said they'd run out of safe options in the rescue effort. Three other miners were killed trying to reach the trapped men.
