TAYLORSVILLE — A Latter-day Saint missionary from Utah has died of injuries she suffered in a small flash fire in Texas.

Sister Ann Jones and her husband, Steven, were serving in a remote area outside San Antonio, Texas. They were living on a ranch in a double-wide trailer that church members had provided.

Thursday night, a gas leak in the kitchen stove created a fire that severely burned Sister Jones. She died Friday morning.

The ranch is located southeast of San Antonio, between that city and Corpus Christi. The couple had been preaching and working with a small congregation there for seven months.

A statement from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reads, in part:

Sister Jones's Church leader is also a close friend of the family. He says hundreds in their Taylorsville neighborhood are deeply saddened and mourning her loss.

"They are people of great faith; and so I believe the gospel that they preached, and their knowledge of it, will console them with the understanding that they will be reunited again," said John Jewkes, president of the Taylorsville Utah North Stake.

Family members traveled to Texas Friday, so funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
