SANDY — A Canyons School District School Board member came under fire from his colleagues Tuesday night after they said he overstepped his bounds by bad-mouthing a fellow board member.

At the school board meeting, board member Kevin Cromar defended his actions. "I have not done anything except to seek to improve the school district. In doing that, I have sought input from educators and administrators," he said. "I am deeply concerned about efforts of intimidation against both me and administrators at the schools."

School board members say Cromar went around Superintendent David Doty and raised allegations about a fellow board member's conduct sometime this year. The accused him of "circulating and publishing disparaging remarks outside of the proper forum of dealing with unsubstantiated accusations against a district employee."

The board passed a resolution 6-1 censuring Cromar. Board members said he was uncivil, attacked his fellow board members, and despite a warning from the board continued to meet with Canyons employees.

Cromar said he has no regrets and only wanted to do what he believes is in the best interest of the Canyons District students.

"Everything I've done for the past three years is to do the best I can as a member of the board to do what's best for education," Cromar said. "I never intended, in that process, to hurt anyone, and I'm committed to working with the board to do what's best for the district."

Canyons School District representatives had no comment, other than to release the statement they gave during the meeting. It says they believe Cromar's allegations are unfounded.

Cromar says he plans to continue to serve on the school board through the end of his term, which is next year. He wouldn't elaborate further on his concerns about the school board.
