SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Marion D. Hanks, an emeritus member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has died.
Hanks died Friday, according to the LDS Church's public relations department. He was 89 years old.
In addition to being a general authority in the church, Hanks served in the quorum's presidency twice. He was granted emeritus status in 1992.
Hanks and his wife, Maxine, are the parents five children.
Funeral plans are still pending.
The church's First Presidency released the following statement:
"The Church lost a valued and respected leader, educator, and friend with the passing of Elder Marion D. Hanks. He was an admired leader who served in numerous Church callings, including the Presidency of the First Quorum of the Seventy and as an Assistant to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. We extend our sincere condolences to his wife, Maxine, and their family."
