Sam Penrod reporting The woman convicted of killing her daughter by forcing her to drink too much water, reported for prison Friday morning.
The judge sentenced Jennette Killpack to prison last Friday, but gave her a week to arrange child care for her other children. Yesterday that same judge rejected a last minute motion by her attorney to keep her out of prison, until her conviction can be appealed.
Jennette Killpack arrived to the Utah County jail just before the deadline of 9:00 this morning. She was accompanied by her husband Richard, who was acquitted of the child abuse homicide charges that Jennette was found guilty of.
In June of 2002, their four-year old daughter Cassandra died after authorities say they forced her to drink a gallon of water, which caused her brain to swell.
Prosecutors called it an abusive form of punishment. The Killpacks maintained it was a form of therapy to help Cassandra with her emotional problems that she had from being abused before they adopted her.
Killpack's attorney did win a hearing next month, but the judge would not allow her to delay serving her sentence until then.
Last Friday Jennette Killpack was ordered to serve one to fifteen years in the state prison.
Within minutes of arriving to the county jail, she was put in a jail van and transported to the Point of the Mountain.
How long she stays in prison will be up to the Board of Pardons, but typically in a case like this it will be at least four years before she is eligible for parole.
