File photoWEST VALLEY CITY -- A high school student is in the hospital after slicing off two fingers while in metal shop class.
The Granger High School girl was cutting a piece of metal with a saw Thursday afternoon just before 2 p.m. when the injury -- which is believed to be accidental -- took place.
Granite School District spokesperson Ben Horsley said the student was awake and alert, but in a state of shock.
The girl was conscious and alert after the accident and was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where she was met by her parents.
Horsley said counselors have been sent to the school and are available to any students who may have been upset by the incident.
