SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Fred Cox will replace former Republican Rep. Ron Bigelow in the Utah House.

Republican delegates chose the 49-year-old Cox during a special caucus meeting Tuesday in West Valley City.

Cox is an architect. He's been active in Republican politics for years, including the tea party movement.

In his campaign platform, he says reducing government spending and developing renewable energy are important.

Bigelow resigned from the House Jan. 1 after Gov. Gary Herbert named him his state budget director.
