SALT LAKE CITY -- More teachers are using Twitter and Facebook to reach out to their students, but not everyone is ready to jump on the digital bandwagon.

In some cases, professors are not only recommending their students have Facebook and Twitter accounts, they're requiring it. That's no surprise to Pete Codella, a social media expert and CEO of Codella Marketing. He's been trying to teach a few college professors how to benefit from social media.

"The tool of communication that's provided through Twitter and Facebook and other social media things just makes it so much easier to stay in contact and communicate," he said.

Codella says another advantage is that students can share information among themselves more easily. A facultyfocus.com survey says of the teachers using Twitter, 90 percent plan to continue.

Still, Codella says there's resistance from some people who are worried about the idea of connecting too personally to their students.
