SALT LAKE CITY -- If you already are feeling the stress of the season, experts say gratitude and forgiveness can help.

For many people stress factors right now include money, gift-giving, expectations from others and ourselves for the perfect Christmas, and our relationships with others.

But University of Utah psychology professor Trish Henrie says research shows grateful people are happy people. She says during the holidays is the perfect time to show gratitude.

"Write notes to people you haven't written to before. Think of the things that you're thankful for each day in your life and don't focus on the negative," she said.

Henrie says forgiveness is very helpful, especially with those stressful relationships. She also suggests focusing on what gives you meaning during this season.
