LAIE, Hawaii -- President Thomas S. Monson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is in Hawaii this weekend for the rededication of a temple on Oahu.
Saturday evening, thousands of young people from the islands performed in a cultural celebration, recalling the history of the faith in their state before it was part of the United States and sharing their culture.
Before the production began, President Monson spoke to Church members about their temple -- the fifth one built by the Church back in 1919. This is its second renovation.
"It shines as a beacon of righteousness to all who will follow His light. We thank our Heavenly Father for the blessings this temple and all temples bring into our lives," he said.
President Monson will rededicate the temple in Laie in three services Sunday morning. You can watch the cornerstone ceremony on KSL 5 News.
