SALT LAKE CITY -- From Tupperware to jeans, makeovers to candles -- many women host "home parties" to earn free products and extra cash. But with the latest trend, kids get the biggest reward.
Book parties are popular among many moms with young kids. As part of DMC's Read Today initiative, we wanted to spotlight something that creates excitement about books and reading.
Tupperware parties have brought women together for decades. But now, instead of helping salads and Jello be their best, moms are attending "book parties" with their kids in mind.
I come here, I present not only some fun books, but also some educational information, encourage people to read with their children.

The parties offer moms a way to earn extra income with more control over their schedules.
"It's a good way to get out of the house and to have adult interaction after staying home with my kids all day," says Usborne book consultant Ashley Davis. "Also, to be able to share a product that I'm passionate about myself."
But many say these parties are all the rage right now because in a tough economy, they can shop for something that contributes to their child's future.
"I've read with my boys ever since they were born and it's important because it helps them learn," says mom Cheri Wilkins.
It's just another way to get both moms and kids excited about reading.
"I come here, I present not only some fun books, but also some educational information," says Davis. "Encourage people to read with their children."
Wherever you get books -- the more the better. Research shows the more access children have to books, the more they will read.
