MURRAY -- The blast of wind that rushed through Herriman Sunday evening caused some tense moments at Wheeler Historic Farm near 6200 South and 900 East in Murray.

Firefighters swung into action to protect barns and other historic structures from a wildfire after 5 p.m. Sunday. It broke out in thick vegetation on the east side of the farm. Tourists visiting the farm snapped pictures of the blaze at its peak.

High winds drove the fire toward expensive homes north of the farm, but firefighters were able to douse the flames and save the homes.

At its closest, the fire burned within 30 yards of one home. The cause so far is undetermined.

"We had some compost piles out there, which could very well have been the culprit to this fire," said Deputy Fire Marshal Russ Groves with the Murray City Fire Department. "We're looking at those as well as anything suspicious."

No one was injured and the fire burned less than an acre of vegetation.
