SALT LAKE CITY -- A scholarship fund is being announced to honor the son of KSL Newsradio's Doug Wright.

Eric Wright, 22, died in an accident while on an internship in Washington, D.C. last week. Wright was found unresponsive in an alley. Police say it appears Wright fell off the roof of a 7-story apartment complex in a tragic accident.

Hundreds of people attended Eric Wright's funeral Thursday, including Governor Herbert, Attorney General Mark Shurtleff and Congressman Rob Bishop.

A highlight of the service was the singing of "Utah Man" by the University of Utah Singers.

Wright graduated from the University of Utah last spring with a degree in history education. He had been working in Washington, D.C., as an intern for Utah Rep. Rob Bishop. Wright's fellow interns say he was the person that brought the group together.

Kirk Jowers, director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics, says the institute wants to honor Wright's enthusiasm for life by creating a scholarship in his name that will allow future students to go to D.C.

"Anyone who knows Eric knew he was the most energy-giving, radiant, wonderful young man," said Jowers. "We believe we are going to create a scholarship that will last in perpetuity and so we will be able to think of him and know of Eric for decades to come."

Jowers says the outpouring of love and support following Wright's death has been amazing. Anyone wishing to learn more about the scholarship can go to ericwrightscholarship.com.
