VISALIA, Calif. -- Police in California have released the 911 call made by the man who they say gunned down an LDS bishop on Sunday.
The call came minutes after Kenneth Ward killed Bishop Clay Sannar at a meetinghouse for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Visalia then fled to a different location.
Dispatcher: "911 emergency."
Ward: "Hi, this is Zane Thomas."
Dispatcher: "Hi, how can I help you?"
Ward: "I just shot the Mormon bishop over there on Tulare Avenue."
Dispatcher: "You did?"
Ward: "Yes I did."
Dispatcher: "Your name is Zane Thomas?"
Ward: "Yep."
Ward: "I'm at 1525 Burrell Avenue."
Ward: "Be prepared to throw down in mortal combat."
Ward was shot and killed by police a short time later.
Ward's brother, Mike Ward, says Kenneth made up the name "Zane Thomas."
He says Ward was tormented by mental illness and believed the church had wronged him when he was a member in the 1980s.
