PAGE, Ariz. -- A small dog is recovering after a man rappelled over 300 feet to pull him out of a dangerous place.
After hiking for a couple hours just outside of Page, Ariz., Zak Anderegg found the small, black puppy stuck in a pothole.
"My heart just absolutely broke, because I was in an extremely remote place," he said.
Anderegg said the dog was frail and close to death. He poured water on the dog's mouth for a few minutes before it recognized what was happening.
He left the dog with food, water and a blanket.
"The food really woke him up, especially the wet stuff, so that was good to see," Anderegg said.
He borrowed a special harness from the Page Animal Hospital to get the dog out of the pothole. Hospital workers say the puppy is "on fluids."
The biggest concern now is that the dog could go into kidney failure after being dehydrated for so long.
