Mary Richards, KSL NewsradioThere's good news and bad news in a new report about health insurance in the state of Utah.

More Utah adults are getting coverage, but more Utah children are going without.

Close to 90,000 Utah children now do not have health insurance. That's up five percent from the year before.

Voices for Utah Children Executive Director Karen Crompton says children need health insurance every day. "Think about young children and the immunizations that they need before they are even two years old. A child that gets an ear ache, or has a tooth infection; parents may choose to delay or forego treatment."

The health department says a large portion of the uninsured children qualify for a state insurance program, but limited spots in the program don't open until July.
