MIDVALE -- An elderly driver crashed his car right through the front of a Barnes & Noble bookstore Saturday.

Police say the man was driving through the parking lot near 1300 East and 7200 South around 12:15 p.m. when his foot slipped off the brake and hit the gas.

He tried to swerve the car to avoid impact but ended up inside the store.

"Luckily there was only one person at the magazine rack there. He heard the glass breaking," said Sgt. Gary Young with the Cottonwood Heights Police Department. "It was a pretty slow-speed accident so he was able to jump out of the way and escape and the car came to a rest up against the magazine rack."

Police say no one was hurt.

They also say they are not planning to cite the driver because the accident happened on private property.
