ST, GEORGE -- Police say alcohol was a factor in a deadly motorcycle accident in St. George Saturday night.
According to Sgt. Craig Harding of the St. George Police Department, a husband and wife were speeding down East Ridge Drive on their motorcycle around 9:30 p.m.
The road curved suddenly, but the driver kept going straight, slammed on his brakes and lost control of the vehicle. The couple was thrown from the bike when it hit a truck parked along the road.
Both the man and woman ended up under the truck.
The driver, 33-year-old Steven Sabatini suffered severe head injuries and was treated at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital where he was declared dead.
Sabatini's wife, 24-year-old Yvonne Bonhard, was flown to the hospital and remained in critical condition Sunday.
Neither victim was wearing a helmet.
Police say the couple had just been married a month ago. The motorcycle they were riding was unregistered and recently purchased.
Investigators are looking into whether speed played a role as well.
