PROVO, Utah (AP) -- A fire official says some residents of south Provo lost power while firefighters doused a lakeside wildfire that filled the sky with black smoke.

Provo Deputy Fire Chief Gary Jolley said electricity was quickly restored, and no injuries were reported during the fire about 8:30 p.m. Monday. No structures were threatened.

Jolley said firefighters kept fire watch through the night to make sure it was out.

He says the fire burned phragmites that contain a lot of natural oil as it raced over an area about 200 yards wide and perhaps a mile long.

There was no immediate word how the fire started.
