OGDEN — An ambulance transporting a patient to a Weber County hospital hit a another vehicle Friday morning, killing a woman inside the car.
South Ogden police spokeswoman Marci Edwards said the ambulance was headed to Ogden Regional Medical Center at around 11 a.m.
As it approached the intersection of Sunset Drive and Highway 89, a white Buick sedan headed southbound on Sunset pulled out in front of the ambulance. The ensuing collision sent both vehicles crashing into other cars in the intersection.
Arlene Logan, 88, of South Ogden was the passenger inside the Buick. She did not survive.
Family members said Logan was being taken to the hospital by her son for a doctor's appointment when they passed through a green light and were hit.
"He's got some broken ribs and feels very, very badly about what happened," another of Logan's sons, LaRon, said about his brother who was driving the Buick. "He felt comfortable with knowing that she went peacefully, and we're very happy for that."
A total of 11 people were involved in the accident. Six people were hurt, five in the ambulance.
"The crew that was the emergency vehicle that had an accident, they're stable," said Deputy Chief Mark Becraft, of the North Davis Fire District "A couple of them received minor injuries; one has a broken arm. But they all seem to be doing well."
Becraft said all of the emergency workers in the ambulance are pretty shaken up over the accident.
Police say the ambulance had its lights and sirens on when the accident happened, so they're not sure why Logan's son drove in front it.
Meanwhile, Logan's family said she will be greatly missed, but that they are thankful for the many memories the have to hold on to. Logan had 28 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.
