INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — USA Diving has been awarded a second spot in the women's 3-meter competition for the Rio Olympics after initially qualifying only one diver.
World governing body FINA reallocated unused quota spots and told USA Diving on Friday during the American trials that it was getting another.
The women's 3-meter final is Sunday in Indianapolis.
Kassidy Cook is in first place with 660.85 points. Abby Johnston is second at 626.55 and Laura Ryan is another 14.95 behind in third. The top two finishers earn Olympic berths.
The unused quota spots were reallocated in order of finish at the FINA World Cup, where the top 18 divers earned spots for their countries. Johnston finished 20th, which put the U.S. second in line to get another spot during reallocation.
A maximum of 136 divers, with no more than 34 in each individual event, may participate in the Olympics.
