SALZBURG, Austria (AP) — German biathlete Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle has been banned for two years for a doping offence at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The International Biathlon Union says in a statement that the 33-year-old Sachenbacher-Stehle's ban is retrospective from Feb. 17 — the date she tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhexaneamine.

The samples were taken after she had finished fourth in the biathlon mass start.

Sachenbacher-Stehle said at the time she had taken the substance inadvertently in a dietary supplement provided by a private nutritionist.

She was sent home from the Olympics and her fourth place finish nullified.

The IBU says the offense was "not contested by the athlete."

Sachenbacher-Stehle won two Olympic golds and three silvers in cross-country before switching to biathlon in 2012.
