GOLD COAST, Australia (AP) — Jason Day has been named the winner of the inaugural Greg Norman Medal as Australia's best-performing international golfer while Jarrod Lyle was awarded the PGA Tour's Courage Award for his battle with cancer.

Day, ranked No. 2 in the world, won five times on the U.S. PGA Tour this year, including his first major at the U.S. PGA Championship. Day, one of eight male and female nominees by the PGA of Australia, also finished tied for fourth at the British Open.

Lyle has overcome two bouts of acute myeloid leukemia. The Australian is in the second year of a medical extension granted to him due to his life-threatening illness.

Both awards were presented at a dinner on Tuesday, two days ahead of the Australian PGA championship at Royal Pines.
