PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Argentina's Emiliano Grillo shot a 3-under 67 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead in the Web.com Tour Finals-ending Web.Com Tour Championship.
The 23-year-old Grillo had a 13-under 197 total on TPC Sawgrass' Dye's Valley Course.
"I thought I was going to have 18 pars today," said Grillo, who started off with 10 in a row before holing a 15-footer for birdie on the par-3 11th. "I had a lot of opportunities on the front nine, but couldn't take advantage of it. I made some par saves, which is always good."
The tournament is the fourth and final event in the series for the top 75 players from the Web.com Tour money list, Nos. 126-200 in the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup standings and non-members such as Grillo who earned enough money to have placed in the top 200 had they been eligible to receive points.
The top 25 players on the Web.com Tour regular-season money list earned PGA Tour cards. They are competing against each other for tour priority, with regular-season earnings counting in their totals. The other players are fighting for 25 cards based on series earnings.
Grillo is fifth on the series money list with $103,667, more than enough to wrap up a PGA Tour card. He lost a playoff in March in the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open.
"You can't go to the first tee and think you're going to win," Grillo said. "You've got to take it one shot at a time. You're not going to win until the last putt drops."
Chez Reavie, the winner of the second event in the series, was second after a 67. The 2008 Canadian Open winner leads the series money list with $215,067 after finishing 166th in the FedEx Cup.
"I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens and I've been putting well," Reavie said. "My speed was better today and I didn't make any bogeys."
Lucas Glover, the 2009 U.S. Open champion, was another stroke back after a 69. Glover was 147th in the FedEx Cup and is 15th in the series with $38,991.
Sam Saunders was fourth at 9 under after a 68. Saunders, Arnold Palmer's grandson, was 137th in the FedEx Cup and is 12th on the series list with $46,950.
Last year, Eric Axley took the 25th card with $36,312.
