BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Steven Alker shot a 6-under 65 to grab the 54-hole lead at the Albertsons Boise Open on Saturday.

Alker's 20-under 193 total broke the tournament record by two strokes and put the 42-year old New Zealander in position for his second win this season.

Alker has a two-shot lead over Steven Wheatcroft (65) and Zack Sucher (68), who held the first-day lead and shared it after 36 holes.

Rookie Justin Thomas matched the low score of the day with a 7-under 64 that moved him to 16 under and tied for fourth with veteran Bill Lunde, who began the third round at Hillcrest Country Club tied with Sucher but managed only a 1-under 70.

"I putted great on the front nine," Alker said. "I just tried to keep the momentum going."

Alker had a bogey on the first hole, but rebounded on consecutive par-5s with a birdie and then a 35-foot chip-in for eagle.
