NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils have signed free agent defenseman Brandon Gormley to a one-year, two-way contract worth $650,000 at the NHL level.

Devils general manager Ray Shero announced the signing Thursday.

The 24-year-old Gormley spent last season with the Colorado Avalanche, collecting one assist in 26 games. He also had four goals and two assists with San Antonio (AHL).

Gormley spent three-plus seasons with the Arizona Coyotes before being traded to Colorado in September. He had two goals and two assists in 32 games over two seasons with the Coyotes. He was selected by Phoenix in the first round (13th overall) at the 2010 NHL entry draft.
