NEW YORK (AP) — Detectives want to question NBA player Matt Barnes after he was accused of being involved in a fight at a nightclub.

Barnes, a Sacramento Kings forward, was sitting with a woman at the Manhattan club early Monday when they began to argue, police say. Bystanders tried to intervene, and a fight broke out, they say.

One patron reported that Barnes injured her by pushing her. Barnes left before police arrived.

A law enforcement official confirmed Monday that police wanted to question Barnes. The official wasn't authorized to discuss the case and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

An attorney for Barnes, Alex Spiro, said the player is cooperating with the investigation.

The Kings released a statement saying the team was gathering more information before taking action.

"We have clear standards of conduct and behavior expected of the entire Kings organization — on and off the court," it said. "We are working with all parties involved to gather information in order to take any appropriate next steps."
