Are you in a mami rut where you only listen to the Disney Channel or maybe De Colores for the twentieth time because you are trying to raise your baby bilingual? Yeah I've been there and ya no lo aguanto! Chicas, some of our first memories were of us dancing to vintage Gloria Trevi or Menudo (when Ricky Martin was part of it). We are betraying ourselves and our culture if we don't remember how to shake our hips a little so I am here for you to give you five songs to dance about.

1. El verdadero amor perdona. I know what you are thinking, how is it possible that two of your favorite performers (Mana and Prince Royce) could read your mind and make beautiful music together with a bachata beat no less? This is a real modern miracle. I love this song!

2. Mi swing es tropical. I am a little embarrased to say I discovered this song as part of a Target ad but on the other hand good job to Target for putting in some Latin flavor to their ads. The thing I like about this happy song is that my gringo friends love to jam to it as much as I do.

3. El tiburon. This is an oldie but a goodie by Proyecto Uno who also provide other great dance songs like Brinca. This song is sure to cheer you up when you are washing dishes while also trying to potty train your toddler. Also, your toddler will love dancing to this.

4. La Despedida. Daddy Yankee does it again here. Not only does he provide a great song but his video also offers new dance moves in case you are a little rusty.

5. Treasure. Ok so this song is in English but it's by Bruno Mars who is Latino (I just discovered that his real name is Pete Hernandez, de veras!). I included the link from his performance at The Voice because it's fascinating to watch him and his band really get their groove going. In fact, I can't stop staring at them dance. They are perfectly in sync and I keep wondering if his musicians are really are just dancers who are fake playing their instruments or if they are just really good musicians who also dance extremely well. These are the kind of things I think about for a long time, er, maybe too long.

Well hermosas, I provided links for you so click on them and enjoy a little baile in your kitchen while the kids take their siesta. Andale pues! Nelda is a mami to two lovely children. Her mom is from Mexico, her dad is from Germany and she enjoys being a product of three cultures. In her spare time, she likes to sing karaoke (Selena only) and dance bachata (Prince Royce anybody??).
