HOUSTON (AP) — A circus performer is recovering after falling more than 20 feet during an aerial act in Houston.
Spectator video shot May 26 shows a male performer and the woman hanging beneath a spinning rocket. The woman was dangling by her hair when she fell.
A statement provided Monday by Circo Hermanos Vasquez (SER'-koh ehr-MAHN'-ohs VAHS'-kez) says the woman, part of the Duo Garcia act, was treated for minor injuries at the scene. She was later treated and released from a hospital.
The statement says the performers failed to properly latch a safety cord. Circus officials Monday did not say whether the injured performer has resumed doing shows.
Circus spokeswoman Lorena Vignaud says safety remains a high priority.
Shows are scheduled to continue in Houston through July 5.
