MILAN (AP) — La Scala is showing off for Milan's 2015 world fair, offering shorter operas for children as well as half-priced tickets to attract opera-lovers who haven't been able to afford to go to the fabled theater.

General Director Alexander Pereira on Tuesday unveiled the 2014-2015 season's program, which overlaps with the city's Expo 2015. He said La Scala Theater will be open every day during the world's fair, which runs from May 1 to Oct. 31.

Operas lasting about 90 minutes will be put on for children. Pereira said he hopes 25,000 children will attend.

Also in 2015, 20 La Scala opera and ballet performances will have half-priced tickets available a month ahead of time, he said.

On the bill on La Scala's traditional Dec. 7 gala opening night will be "Fidelio," conducted by Daniel Barenboim. The Expo season will open with "Turandot," part of a cycle of Puccini operas under maestro Riccardo Chailly's direction.
