NEW YORK (AP) — Broadway's love affair with "The Bridges of Madison County" is ending quickly.

Producers said Thursday that the show based on Robert James Waller's novel, which was made into a 1995 movie starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood, will close May 18 after just 137 performances.

It's about a four-day love affair between a photographer and an Italian-American housewife in 1965 Iowa. The music and lyrics are by Jason Robert Brown.

The musical garnered only four Tony Award nominations on Tuesday, including best original score and best actress for Kelli O'Hara. But it failed to secure a best musical nomination. A tour is planned for 2015.

It joins the play "The Velocity of Autumn" as early casualties of the Tony nominating process. Both shows also sagged at the box office.
