SALT LAKE CITY — A rare Book of Mormon, printed in 1842, was recently appraised to be worth $40,000 on the History Channel's reality television show "Pawn Stars."
The Book of Mormon's rarity is due to the fact that it was printed in the final edition before Joseph Smith, the first President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was killed, according to AOL.
Rick Harrison, owner of "Pawn Stars," ended up buying the Book of Mormon from the owner for $24,000, AOL reported.
The book is the most expensive book "Pawn Stars" has ever seen.
Earlier this year, "Antique's Roadshow" appriased a first-edition Book of Mormon for $100,000. Another first edition went for $180,000 in 2007 at Swann Auction Galleries in Manhattan, according to the New York Times.
There were originally 5,000 copies of the first-edition Book of Mormon, and experts say there are less than 500 today, the New York Times reported.
