THE AFTERLIFE — It's Halloween week and that means it's time for Halloween movies. While you may look to the classics for a good scare, I submit that you should give a comedy a chance.

That's right, it's time to both laugh and jump this Halloween and here are five reasons "Beetlejuice" should be that movie.

Fun

There is no way around it — "Beetlejuice" is fun. It's quirky and strange, but that's what you get with Tim Burton. But despite it's oddities this movie is fun to watch.

There are some great performances in the film and the imagination that went into this is phenomenal. As strange as it may be, I dare you to watch this and not get Harry Belafonte's "Banana Boat Song" stuck in your head.

Original

Movie fans call for originality these days and you'd be hard pressed to find a more original film than "Beetlejuice."

The bizarre story and strange set pieces will keep you smiling and wanting more. There is a lack of originality in Hollywood these days, but to get a taste of some of the original films we've been missing, check out "Beetlejuice."

Nostalgic

Believe it or not, but it has been 25 years since "Beetlejuice" hit theaters. Yes, that's why Alec Baldwin looks so thin and young, because he was 25 years younger than today.

Despite being 25 years old "Beetlejuice" manages to hold up, but the dated moments actually make it even more fun because it's like a window into our bizarre and colorful past.

Different

There is no way around it "Beetlejuice" is strange movie. It's bizarre, off the wall and quirky. Because of that it is not for everyone, but for those it is for, it's delightful.

Burton's bizarre take on the after life and the classic tale of haunting is strange and odd and it's exactly what we love about Burton. This was Burton's hay day and this movie is different from just about anything else you'll ever see.

Michael Keaton

If there is one reason you see this movie, it has to be for Michael Keaton. This is Keaton at his absolute best and he has been even quoted as saying that "Beetlejuice" is his favorite film he's been in.

Watching the film, you almost can't contemplate the fact it's Keaton under all that make up. He's hilarious and at times terrifying as the one and only Beetlejuice. This movie would not be anywhere near as good as it is without Keaton's performance.

Even though Keaton is the antagonist, you realize you're cheering for him the whole way and want nothing more than to see a little bit more of Beetlejuice.

As you look for something to watch this Halloween, pull out the old VCR and hook it up as you pop in the VHS of "Beetlejuice" and enjoy the next hour and a half as you're transported to the strangest take on New England living, and dying, you're likely to see.
