SALT LAKE CITY — Edward, Bella and Jacob may have made her a multimillionaire, but "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer says she's done with the franchise.
Over the past six years, the "Twilight" series has sold more than 116 million copies and the four film adaptations have made more than $3 billion at the box office. Despite its massive success, "Twilight" has become a bit of a pop-culture joke and it appears Meyer herself has jumped onto the bandwagon.
Meyer has been promoting the upcoming film "Austenland" which she produced and she was asked by Variety if she was any closer to continuing the series.
"I get further away every day. I am so over it," she said. "For me, it's not a happy place to be."
I'm not totally sure what she means by, "not a happy place to be," but what it means for fans is no more vampire/werewolf angst.
She went on to explain that if she did re-visit the series, it wouldn't be the sweeping epic fans hoped for.
"What I would probably do is three paragraphs on my blog saying which of the characters died," she said.
That was harsh, but it was directed at her work, so, I guess that's OK.
"Austenland" is set to open August 16.
