YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The National Park Service is seeking public comment on a proposed ecological monitoring station in Yellowstone National Park.
The facility operated by the National Ecological Observatory Network would monitor how climate change, land-use change and invasive species affect the Yellowstone ecosystem.
NEON, Inc., proposes to establish sensor arrays at dozens of sites nationwide. The data collected would be available to scientists, researchers and the public.
The organization funded by the National Science Foundation proposes Yellowstone for its core site for the northern Rocky Mountain region.
The station would be located nine miles east of Mammoth Hot Springs. The Park Service is taking comments through Dec. 21 on the monitoring station and has scheduled a meeting on the proposal at 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Homewood Suites in Bozeman, Montana.
