KAYSVILLE — The future of robotics is strong thanks to a few groups of students here in Utah. Last week, a team from Davis High School competed in the VEX World Robotics Championships — and won!

Isaac Froisland, Ryan Froisland, and Quinn Evans made up the three-person team from Davis High that spend their entire school year building robots.

Team Captain Isaac Froisland said the robot they took to the VEX Robotics World Championships is not their original design. They built six or seven complete robots throughout the year.

VEX Robotics is a competition where students from around the world try to make the best design for a yearly challenge issued each April. This year, students had to pick up eight-inch wire frame cubes, and build a tower with them, just using their robot. The team built the parts and wrote the computer code that made the robot work.

Davis High Engineering Teacher Dane Leifson says "It's a pretty big deal for the kids to get to that level. Even just to make it to the world championships."

At the World Championships, they got to interact with 550 teams from 29 different countries, and walked away with the top prize.

"It was like oh wait, did that really happen?", Froisland said.
