RIVERTON — A semitrailer carrying milk tipped over at the Bangerter Highway and 12600 South intersection Wednesday morning, closing 12600 South.

The accident occurred near 12600 South and Bangerter Highway around 11:30 a.m., according to Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal. The driver of a semitruck was traveling on Bangerter Highway and turned left onto 12600 South when the semitruck rolled, Hoyal said.

The semitruck narrowly missed crashing into an In-N-Out Burger restaurant after sliding over the curb between a power pole and a light post without hitting them. The truck came to rest right next to the drive-through lane, Hoyal said. There were customers waiting in line as the truck slid toward them, but no one was injured.

The trailer was carrying 6,500 gallon of milk, but only a small amount spilled on the roadway. The 35-year-old driver sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Westbound 12600 South was closed for several hours during the cleanup of the accident. Eastbound 12600 South was restricted to one lane.

The case is expected to be turned over to the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office following the completion of an investigation to be reviewed for possible charges.
