SALT LAKE CITY — A grass fire burned a shed and a garage, and threatened an abandoned house along the Jordan River Tuesday morning.

Investigators determined the two-alarm blaze near 1300 South and 900 West was likely set by transients, said Salt Lake fire spokesman Jasen Asay.

The fire apparently started in the detached garage. It destroyed that structure and charred two vehicles inside.

The flames were fueled by tall, dry grass, and spread quickly, jumping the river at one point. Asay said residents used rakes, shovels and garden hoses to extinguish the small fire on the west side of the river.

Firefighters put out the flames near the fire's origin. The house sustained minor damage.

No injuries were reported.
