More than 2,000 young men from 18 Latter-day Saint stakes and other faiths came together for a something the community in Bountiful won't soon forget. The young men marched together to re-enact the story in the Book of Mormon of Helaman's stripling warriors marching to war.
Cory Hanks, president of the Bountiful Handcart Days Parade Utah South Stake, had the vision to recreate the famous moment from the scriptures. The project took a year of planning. Sisters from the stake worked to sew costumes for each of the young men. In all, 5,700 yards of fabric were used.
The march proved to be a touching tribute to the stripling warriors and to the modern day stripling warriors who participated in the parade.
"The world out there is vying for their attention-vying for their time, their minds, their hearts, their souls. And these are young men who said, you know, we're going to work hard at being good," Hanks said. "And now these are a group of young boys in today's world that are like the Army of Helaman today. They represent truth and righteousness and courage."
