HOWLINGTON — It can be tough being a musical dog — not having opposable thumbs and all — because your most viable musical option becomes howling.

But if you’re a musical dog that also happens to live with a musical little girl, a howling lament can become a charming — if slightly odd — duet.

A basenji dog in Russia begins this musical treat as a solo. He clomps on the keys and howls along, then looks around to someone off-camera, apparently expecting a reaction of some sort.

Pretty soon a little girl comes into view, and the oddly paired duet begins. She plays a sweet, simplified beginner's tune with one hand, and the hound begins howling along with a bluesy flair, the default genre of howling.

His howls are passionate and expressive, and the pup even changes his howls and noises with a surprising amount of variety. He even tromps up and down the keyboard to more fully participate.
