GREEDY VALLEY — If you’ve known more than one dog, you know that dogs all have different personalities.

There are polite dogs, naughty dogs, cozy dogs, singing dogs and fun-loving dogs. And the size of the personality doesn’t necessarily match the size of the dog.

Enter Elmo, a wee Chihuahua and Staffordshire bull terrier mix. Elmo initially appears obedient and polite as his owner places a large sausage snack in front of each dog.

The owner admonishes the dogs to wait to snag their treats, and they comply with relative placidity and obedience.

But if you look closely, Elmo takes quick, furtive glances to his right — first at the all sausages, then at the other dogs. Elmo is planning something, and the plot thickens.

When the dogs are given the go-ahead to partake, Elmo is quickly on his feet and rushes to not only grab his sausage, but to steal both his brother’s sausages to boot. He can barely fit all the sausages in his mouth to carry them away for his feast, yet he is determined in his greed and quick in his success.

Meanwhile the other dogs are only confused by their lack of treats, and perhaps disappointed in themselves for their slow starts. Maybe this is just the push they needed to up their treat-nabbing training.

But maybe Elmo deserves a begrudging respect. After all, he saw his chance and he boldly took it, even if his motive was based on pure greed. Plus, how can we stay mad at that little face?
