LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A teacher and assistant football coach at Trinity High School in Louisville has been accused of violating child exploitation laws through illegal online communication with a 13-year-old boy in Texas.

The U.S. attorney's office in Louisville said 33-year-old Patrick Newman was arrested Tuesday and appeared before a U.S. magistrate judge. He is also charged with possession of child pornography.

An investigator said in an affidavit that online activity was traced to Newman's address in Louisville.

Trinity said in a statement that Newman is on leave pending further investigation.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Louisville said it hasn't received any reports about Newman, who formerly taught at two elementary schools.

The archdiocese and Trinity said there's no indication the schools were involved.
