BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Senators acknowledged overwhelmingly Idaho can do a better job of readying convicts for freedom and keeping them from re-offending once they've been released. The chamber voted 35-0 yesterday to pass a bill designed to reduce the number of non-violent offenders in prison. The so-called "Justice Reinvestment Act," a measure being promoted by Gov. Butch Otter, now goes to the House.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Veteran game-show host and animal activist Bob Barker is asking Gov. Butch Otter to veto a bill that jails people who secretly film animal abuse at Idaho's agricultural facilities. Barker sent a letter telling Otter that more than a dozen other states have rejected similar bills, and it could damage Idaho's image among consumers across the nation. Barker refers to himself as a lifelong Republican.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A government-funded experiment on diseased bison herds in Yellowstone National Park shows non-infected animals can be safely removed and used to start new herds. The results bolster arguments that a species driven to the brink of extinction last century could be restored to parts of its once-vast territory without threatening livestock with disease. Yellowstone's bison are prized for their pure genetics.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Mormon Church is pushing back against the notion that members of the faith are taught they'll get their own planet in the afterlife. The church says that's a misconception popularized in pop culture most recently by the Broadway show "The Book of Mormon." A newly-posted article affirms the faith's belief that humans can become like God in eternity, but says the "cartoonish image of people receiving their own planets" is not how members of The LDS Church envision it.
