SALT LAKE CITY -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will form a new Chinese-speaking congregation in Northern Virginia.
The church announced in a news release that the Twin Lakes Branch (Chinese) will meet in Centreville and will serve Chinese-speaking church members who, until now, have met with English-speaking congregations.
The church began a concentrated effort to reach Chinese families and individuals residing in Northern Virginia beginning in January 2010 when it formed a Chinese Group in Centreville, Virginia.
The church has four Chinese-speaking full-time missionaries serving in the area, and several dozen former missionaries who previously served full-time Mandarin-speaking missions in Taiwan, Singapore, Canada, Australia and elsewhere.

The leadership for the new branch will be chosen from the Chinese community and others who are fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Steven L. Hilton, president of the Centreville Virginia Stake, said, "The number of Chinese-speaking members of the church in Northern Virginia is growing, and the time has come for us to provide a venue where they can participate in worship services and other activities in their native language. We anticipate that with the establishment of this new congregation, membership in our Church among the Chinese community will see even greater growth."
