MARRIAGE TOWN — In today’s movies, sometimes it is difficult to find strong and healthy relationships, but here are three movies that remind us how great marriage can really be.

John and Jenny Grogan — Marley and Me

Marley might be the star of the 2008 family drama, but the humans are what make this movie worth watching. John (Owen Wilson) and Jenny (Jennifer Aniston) have a dynamic relationship that almost any couple can relate to.

As idealistic newlyweds, the Grogans adopt a cute yellow puppy that ends up being a mischievous mess. Even though Marley is way more than the couple bargained for, he quickly becomes part of the family and the focus of John’s newspaper column.

The movie spans Marley’s life and shows the ups and downs most couples face over the years together. From babies, new jobs, vacations, to the loss of a loved one, “Marley and Me” celebrates the important life lessons that can enhance a marriage and a family.

“Marley and Me” is rated PG for thematic material, some suggestive content and language. On Ok.com it is appropriate for ages 8+ and is 100 percent worth your time.

Julia and Paul Child — Julie and Julia

Intertwining the lives of Julie Powell in 2002 and Julia Child in 1949, “Julie and Julia” (2009) is not just about fine French cuisine. While both women experiment with recipes in the kitchen, the story also explores what goes into making a great relationship.

There are definitely some similarities between Julie and Julia, but their marriages couldn’t be more different. It’s clear that Julie and Eric Powell love each other, but there are aspects of their relationship that will make most people cringe, especially when Eric walks out for a short time. On the other hand, Julia and Paul Child exemplify unconditional support and love. Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci are by far the best part of the entire movie and have one of the most inspiring relationships in any movie. You’ll laugh and cry as you fall in love with their story.

“Julie and Julia” has an Ok.com age appropriate rating of 12+ and is rated PG-13 for brief strong language and some sensuality. With a 75 percent worth your time rating, you should at least give it a chance in order to see how wonderful the Childs are.

Noah and Allie Calhoun — The Notebook

No relationship has a worse start than Noah and Allie’s in the 2004 romantic drama, “The Notebook,” starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

Granted, there are plenty of issues between the lovers from the time they meet, and the choices they make individually and together are not always the best. However, it is also true that Noah and Allie overcome some pretty gigantic obstacles throughout their love story and prove that love isn’t always easy. It’s that struggle that makes this movie resonate with so many lovers out there.

To avoid spoilers for anyone who hasn’t seen or read the popular love story, let’s just say the ending of Noah and Allie’s story is a beautiful and powerfully moving conclusion that proves love doesn’t have to end.

“The Notebook” is rated PG-13 for some sexuality. On Ok.com this movie is appropriate for ages 15+ and is 85 percent worth your time. Sarah Bringhurst is recent graduate from Utah Valley University and currently an intern with Ok.com. EMAIL: sarah@ok.com
