KANSAS — Maybe it's because stormy clouds are Hollywood special effect guys' go-to when trying to add drama and a sense of foreboding to a scene, but there's something about unusual weather that seems to invoke the end of the world.

This video out of Kansas is no different. Watch it and you'll probably feel like you've time traveled and are somehow watching a video of the apocalypse.

My immediate reaction to this video was, "This can't be real," and then I immediately watched it 20 more times in awe that it actually is.

The time-lapse was captured by a photographer near Russell Springs, Kansas, as the sun set and a storm moved in Friday evening. According to CNN, the "long-lived supercell" hovered over the area bringing large hail along with the lightning show.

I, personally, can't help but marvel at the beauty of this video. While I know the storm would have been terrifying to experience in person, videos like this remind me that Mother Nature really knows how to put on a spectacle. And it's great to know that those CGI "end of the world" storm scenes are not actually that unrealistic after all.
